We Believe Mental Health Matters!
Tuan Nguyen, LMSW, CART
I provide counseling to adolescents, adults, families, and couples. My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in psychology and social behavior from the University of California, Irvine and a master’s degree in social work with a clinical focus from the University of Houston. I am a licensed therapist under clinical supervision of a licensed clinical social worker. My experience includes providing therapy to clients at a mental health rehabilitation center, working as a therapist and coordinator at a counseling center in Houston that served a culturally and socioeconomically diverse population, and assisting individuals in exploring and developing academic and career goals at colleges. I am also trained in assisting clients in managing anger.
As a Christian, I believe God’s design and intent is for us to be loved, to love, and to have a community of support. Many of us are hurting because of hurtful actions others have done to us or actions we have done. This has led to a sense of distance from God and or others, a disruption in thriving and in knowing, experiencing and seeking healthy love. God says in Jeremiah 29:11 that He’s not done with you, yet. Healing and the renewing of the mind and heart are possible.
Whether you identify as a Christian or a person of another faith or belief, I will respect your background. My approach to therapy is that I would like to get to know you, your background, your current struggles, and your hopes and goals. I will listen, hear you, and then partner with you as you gain the clarity, practical tools, and support needed to more fully express your strengths and pursue your next steps. Thoughts, feelings, and actions interact with one another and impact how we do. Let’s begin together the process of gaining a greater understanding of them making changes toward relief and growth.
A bit more about myself: I was born in Houston and grew up in Southern California. I am a second-generation American whose parents were refugees from Vietnam. I enjoy learning about different backgrounds and cultures and how they shape the past and present of myself and others. My interests include reading, serving at my church, running, playing tennis, going to Costco, and taking my family on adventures.
