We Believe Mental Health Matters!
Leslie Hagemeier, Student Intern
I am currently a student intern attending the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston. I graduated from the University of Houston in 1991 with a Bachelors in Psychology and I have worked for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for going on twenty years. I have been fortunate to work in all areas of CPS which gave me extensive experience in working with families and children. I have experience working with children who have been abused and neglected by their parents or caregivers and assessing the safety of children in their homes. I have worked my last nine years striving to ensure the safety of foster children. I also work with their parents to provide services and resources to promote change within the family to hopefully work towards reunification or to work towards long term permanency through relatives, kinship caregivers, or foster parents. When I graduate, I would like to continue my work with vulnerable children and their families by becoming a licensed counselor. It is my desire to treat the family unit as a whole and be able to provide individual and family counseling, conduct parenting programs, play therapy, and marriage and family counseling.
My greatest accomplishment is raising two amazing kids, who are currently in college and starting this most exciting part of their lives. I have a very supportive and loving husband and my amazing mother has been a part of my household for the past 20 years. She is the reason I could work my job with Children’s Protective Services. I am also blessed with three dogs and a cat and I cannot imagine my life without my furry friends for the love and comfort that they freely give.
